EXTERIOR QUALITY

Wood Iron Tiny Homes are designed with modern architecture and inspired by elements adhering to the wilderness landscape. Modern Natural Edge is our speciality, built for YOU!

Low Maintenance

We intentionally designed our tiny home without exterior paint, so your home will never need periodic scraping, sanding, chipping, or repainting.

We protected all exterior wood with high quality waterproofing stain and natural wood oils. Although the rough cedar siding and trim holds stain intact without peeling, light stain touchups is permitted after years of slow natural fading.

Energy Efficient Siding

We built our walls with a total R-value of 18.2, which is not much less than a 6 inch wall value of R-21, but much lighter for transportation.

  • We made the the walls with 2×4 Douglas Fir, then filled the 16” spaced studs with fiberglass paper-faced moisture barrier insulation, with an R-value of 15.
  • We wrapped and seam-taped the stud walls with 1/2” aluminum-foil-faced polystyrene foam panels to break transfer of heat and cold from outside in, and vise versa. This adds 3.2 R-Value to the wall insulate value.

Weatherproof

To keep you and your carefully chosen valued belongings and lifestyle safe from external elements, we surrounded the walls with Tyvek Rain House Wrap and taped every seam.

  • Rain Wrap is a second guarantee on top of the taped polystyrene panels that moisture will never enter your home. It is designed to leave tiny vertical channels under the siding for any moisture to run down the wall to the ground and not be trapped.
  • Shingle siding is also backed with 3/8 inch plywood to keep you comfortable even in the most extreme weather climates.

Cedar Porch

We originally thought a tiny home porch would add aesthetic dimension, but then we thought, “who wouldn’t want a porch?” Having a porch on your home empowers you to enjoy your natural surroundings outside, no matter the weather conditions.

We built the 5’x10′ cedar front porch and steps large enough for enjoying the morning sun or evening sunset, yet small enough for easy loading in the back of a pickup or onto a trailer.

The awning also prevents the high summer sun from heating up your home unnecessarily in the summer, yet is high enough to invite the low summer sun’s warmth on a cold morning.

Innovative Awning

We designed the awning to protect your tiny home from weather when parked and from road damage when in transport.

  • The awning protects the cedar porch, and therefore the full glass French door entrance, from rain splatter.
  • We also built it strong enough to support snow loads, which means no shoveling yourself out when the storms roll through!
  • The gutter and vintage chain-link drain design will keep water off your head and away from your steps.
  • The porch awning’s innovative design and dimension enables it to effortlessly fold-down and securely lock to protect the front entrance during road travel.
